Genus Salina MacGillivray, 1894

Type species. Salina banksi Mac Gillivray, 1894

Diagnosis of the genus. Body without scales, covered with apically acuminate or clavate ciliated mac and apically branched mic. Color pattern variable, ground colour commonly yellowish with blue/violet or orange pigment present as patches or longitudinal bands. Head with 8+8 eyes on black patches. Antennae four segmented, as long as, or more commonly, longer than body. Body chaetotaxy oligo or polychaetotic. Head ‘An’ series with chaeta An2a as a serrated mic, vertex with 2+2 mac (S2 & S3) in a trapezoid disposition, Pa6 as a bothriotrichum. Thorax not humped, central mac on Th. II present or absent, one central mac (p3) always present on Th. III, ms formula of Th. II–Abd. V as 1,0/1, 0, 1, 0, 0. Bothriotricha formula on Abd. II–IV as 2, 3, 5. Abd. IV in midline 2.5 to 4 times the length of Abd. III. Female genital area surrounded by four smooth chaetae. Unguis lanceolate, unguiculus truncate/lanceolate or excavate. Dens smooth and cylindrical, with an apical dental appendage. Mucro square or rectangular with 2–4 teeth (Mitra 1973; Soto–Adames 2010; Oliveira et al. 2018).
