Authors/Creators
Description
This baseline study on the status of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus in Iran, Iraq, Syria,
and Türkiye consisted of a national assessment of each one of the WEFE sectors utilizing a literature
review and stakeholder consultations, including the current situation of the sectors highlighting the
risks, the national policies and legal frameworks, and the socio-economic situation. This was
followed by an overview of examples of successful projects in the study countries and in the region,
and instances of unsustainable practices in the study countries. The study also presents an
assessment of the current policies and governance structure to identify the gaps and show potential
for cooperation. The study finally suggests small and medium scale WEFE projects that can be
implemented across the study countries.
