POLYPHENOLS OF WATER-ALCOHOL INFUSIONS ON POMEGRANATE BIO-WASTE

Authors/Creators

Description

Modern pharmacy must meet the requirements of consumer safety and follow the principles of green technologies. The use of environmentally friendly solvents and extractants is one of these principles. This study was conducted in order to obtain laboratory samples of water-alcohol infusions on leathery pericarp and partitions of four varieties of ripe pomegranates from Geokchai (Azerbaijan) and to determine their flavonoid composition. The infusions were obtained maceration method by the General Pharmacopoeia Article 1.4.1.0019.15 (Russian Pharmacopoeia) without heating and removing the solvent, 40% (vol.) aqueous ethanol was used, obtained by diluting 96% rectified ethyl alcohol in accordance with The State Standard of Russia 5962-2013 in a 2/3 (alcohol/water) ratio. The mixtures, consisting of 1 part of the peel or partitions, ground with a blender to a grain size of 0.5-1 mm, and 10 parts of solvent, were aged for 2 months in a glass measuring flask with a cap inserted into its neck in an unlit place for “maturation”. After that, the composition of the active components of the liquid phase from its separation on a tissue filter was studied using photometric and chromatographic-photometric analysis methods. It was found that the amount of flavonoids in infusions of leathery pericarp is on average 278.20 μg/ml, and in infusions of septa - 200.27 μg/ml. Moreover, in the total amount of flavonoids, the proportion of yellow flavonols was equal to 145.63 mcg or 52.3% (infusion on leathery pericarp) and 179.38 μg or 89.6% (infusion on septa). Infusions on leathery pericarp, slightly inferior to infusions on septa in the content of flavonols (145.63±10.08 μg/ml versus 179.38±13.89 μg/ml), were significantly ahead of them in the concentration of other flavonoids (anthocyanins, leukoanthocyanins, catechins, proanthocyanidins), as well as chlorogenic acid (31.04±3.65 μg/ml versus 27.35±2.11 μg/ml).
