IDEA Code of Conduct
Creators
Description
The IDEA Code of Conduct, adapted from the Toronto Statement on Pre-Publication International Data Sharing, establishes principles for ethical and responsible data sharing within the IDEA Consortium and its regional chapters. It emphasizes respect for privacy, ethical, and legal rights—including those of Indigenous peoples—while supporting rapid prepublication data release to enable collaborative, large-scale, and community-engaged research. The Code outlines responsibilities for coordinating nodes, project leaders, and data users, including consent and governance mechanisms, FAIR-aligned metadata and documentation, timely publication of analyses, proper attribution, and the long-term stewardship of data, samples, and derived knowledge.
