Hype Studies Workshop
Description
This is an workshop exercise designed for a small-medium sized group that aims to assess the performativity of hype on technological and scientific development. Its duration is flexible but an ideal timing could be between 45 and 60 minutes. For designing it, I have taken into consideration the workings within the Hype Studies group - an international collaboration of researchers, artists, and other stakeholders interested in hype as a field of study. Within the website, one can find a comprehensive list of academic resources about hype and several other items: https://hypestudies.org/
The workshop is free to use and adapt as per Creative Commons license. We would appreciate getting in touch to let us know about the usefulness and potential outcomes - and potentially join our community!
The workshop has been piloted as part of the event 'AI and Hype' at the Bristol Digital Futures Institute, 9 July 2025 by Vassilis Galanos, with many thanks to Ola Michalec for the invitation and to all participants. https://www.bristol.ac.uk/bristol-digital-futures-institute/news/2025/news-vassilis-galanos---event-invitation.html
