The BioWhere Gazetteer is an enriched digital place-name database for Aotearoa New Zealand, merging authoritative geographic datasets with Māori cultural narratives, historical contexts, and biodiversity locality descriptions. Built on an extended Alexandria Digital Library Gazetteer model, it supports multiple names, languages, feature types, and temporal data for each geographic feature, enhancing applications in GIS, ecology, digital humanities, and indigenous knowledge systems.
