Datasets used in analysis for article " Vegetation Responses to Extreme Drought Events during 2001-2016 in Southwest China"
Authors/Creators
Description
This dataset hosts data supporting the analysis performed in the article titled "Vegetation Responses to Extreme Drought Events during 2001-2016 in Southwest China". This dataset includes data and code supporting the results section and supplementary figures in this paper. The code was written using NCAR Command Language (NCL), developed by the Computational and Information Systems Lab at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
Links and instructions for model and analysis tools are provided below:
- NCL: Developed by the Computational and Information Systems Lab at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), available at https://github.com/NCAR/ncl
- CLM5: https://github.com/ESCOMP/cesm
We used the China Meteorological Forcing Dataset (CMFD, https://doi.org/10.11888/Meteoro.tpdc.270961) to drive model simulations. We run the spinup simulation using 2000 to 2016 atmospheric forcing and cycled for 17 times (a total of 680 years) to reach the steady state. The time resolution was set to monthly, and the spatial resolution was 0.1°×0.1°.
The files included in this dataset are described below:
- Distribution of major vegetation types in the Southwest China.zip: This file is used to create spatial distribution of major vegetation types in Southwest China, containing netCDF files and NCL code.
- Identification and characteristics of extreme drought events.zip: This file contains the SPEI index for Southwest China from 2001 to 2016 calculated in this study, as well as the duration and spatial distribution of SPEI for all three extreme drought events identified during the study period. Contains netCDF files and NCL code.
- LAI and GPP changes across different number of droughts experienced.zip: This file contains the changes in LAI and GPP in Southwest China when experiencing different number of droughts.
- The immediate, cumulative, and lagged effects of different drought events.zip: This file contains the SPEI index for Southwest China from 2001 to 2016 calculated in this study, as well as the duration and spatial distribution of SPEI for all three extreme drought events identified during the study period. Contains netCDF files and NCL code.
- Vegetation resistance and resilience to drought.zip: This file contains all results related to vegetation resistance and resilience in this study. For example, the spatial distribution of vegetation resistance and resilience from CLM5 simulations and remote sensing products, the resistance and resilience of vegetation in Southwest China after experiencing all three drought events, and the resistance and resilience of different vegetation types. Different data types are stored in separate subfolders. Includes netCDF files and NCL code.
