Description

The Unified Global Landslide Catalog (UGLC) is a harmonized global-scale landslide inventory that integrates and standardizes all publicly available landslide datasets at global, national, and sub-national levels. It includes both point and polygonal records, each accompanied by key spatial and temporal metadata, as well as general descriptive information (e.g., trigger type, source, date, etc.).

Abstract (En)

The Unified Global Landslide Catalog (UGLC) is a harmonized global-scale landslide inventory that integrates and standardizes all publicly available landslide datasets at global, national, and sub-national levels. It includes both point and polygonal records, each accompanied by key spatial and temporal metadata, as well as general descriptive information (e.g., trigger type, source, date, etc.).

The catalog aims to provide a consistent and ready-to-use reference for the scientific community, supporting applications such as landslide susceptibility modeling, risk assessment, and Earth system science studies. All records have been carefully processed to ensure interoperability and transparency, with detailed documentation on source attribution and spatial/temporal accuracy.

Technical info (En)

The UGLC catalog is also available in GeoPackage format, divided into 105 tiles that cover the entire Earth's surface. Each tile includes a Tile_ID attribute (_i_j) for unique identification within the UGLC_tile_grid.

i (longitude step) = [0-15]
j (latitude step) = [0-7]
Empty tiles are automatically excluded from storage, ensuring optimized file management and performance.

Notes

Dataset Version Update (v2)

This version supersedes the previously published dataset.

Following post-publication quality control and external feedback, a technical issue affecting the spatial tiling outputs was identified. The issue was traced to a geometry alignment inconsistency introduced during the GeoDataFrame construction step of the tiling workflow.

Importantly, this issue did not affect the master catalogue data, attributes, or event records. The underlying datasets remain unchanged. The issue only influenced the generation of a subset of GeoPackage tiles, resulting in the absence of files for specific geographic regions.

The tiling workflow has been corrected and all spatial tiles have been fully regenerated.

Polygon Dataset Availability

Due to Zenodo file-number limitations, polygonal tiles are not distributed in tiled GeoPackage format in this version. Instead, the complete polygon dataset is provided as a global CSV file containing all polygon geometries and attributes.

 

Changes in this version:

  • Corrected all GeoPackage tiles (point dataset)

  • Only global CSV is provided for polygonal dataset

  • No modifications to catalogue attributes or records

The previous version remains available for full reproducibility.
