Description
Ichalkaranji, known as the "Manchester of Maharashtra," is a prominent textile hub that attracts a significant number of in-migrant workers from various regions. This study explores the geographical dimensions of in-migrant workers in Ichalkaranji, focusing on their origins, socio-economic conditions, and spatial distribution within the city. Using a combination of primary surveys and secondary data analysis, the research identifies key source regions of migration and examines factors influencing workers’ movement, such as employment opportunities, wages, and living conditions. The study also highlights the challenges faced by migrant workers, including housing shortages, access to basic amenities, and job security. The findings provide insights into the role of migration in shaping the urban landscape and economic dynamics of Ichalkaranji, offering valuable perspectives for policymakers and urban planners to improve the living standards of migrant workers.
