Description

This is probably one of the most comprehensive publications on the use of AI by high-impact criminal groups. In the study, the EU Programme EL PACCTO 2.0 and Juan Manuel Aguilar identify key aspects such as:

  • Criminal groups and platforms such as FraudGPT, Xanthorox AI, and DarkBARD that offer you the ‘service’ (Crime-as-a-Service) of purchasing, automation, and complexification cybercrimes such as phishing and ransomware.
  • Typologies of AI-Enhanced crimes and criminal networks.
  • Criminal trends in the use of AI by criminal groups in Latin America and the Caribbean, although we also include analysis of networks located on other continents (e.g., the Yahoo Boys, the 13th Floor Syndicate, and Cotton Sandstorm).
  • Criminal networks such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel with the Drone Operators Unit, which have created special units to develop AI technology and its use in autonomous vehicles. Their modus operandi and the technology they use.
The geostrategic implications for the four broad categories we have created: 1) Traditional Hierarchical Organisations; 2) Distributed Networks or Cybercollectives; 3) Autonomous Criminal Platforms; 4) Geopolitical Proxies and Parastatal Actors.

It is clearly a step further in raising awareness and responding to a reality that is increasingly relevant and, at the same time, unknown to the general public.
