Identitata Crestina in Opera lui Rene Descartes

The present article is incipient research on how René Descartes understands Christian identity. The focus of the research is built on Descartes' six Meditations and on Descartes' letter "To the Deans and Professors of the Holy Faculty of Theology in Paris".

In the author's opinion, if we read each meditation individually, we see how Descartes succeeds in a rational way to bring the West closer to Christian logic, a West that was in great disarray, deeply troubled by:

1. at least four Protestant reformist directions plus the counter-reformation;

2. by the Thirty Years' War (1618 – 1648), conflict between the Catholic and Protestant states of the Holy Roman Empire;

3. by the expansion and influence of Jansenism;

4. by the condemnation in 1633 of Galileo Galilei;

5. by the appearance, in 1620, of Francis Bacon's work, "Novum Organum";

6. but especially by the impact of the work "New Atlantis", which was first published in 1627, when Descartes was 31 years old.
