There are 2 files in this upload:
1. The file named "2026_Klee_ScienceAdv.pdf" is the Open Access pdf of the online publication in Science Advances.
2. The file named "Klee_ScienceAdv_data_code.zip" (~3.5 GB) is a zipped version of a folder ‘Klee_ScienceAdv_data_code’, which contains the data analyzed in the study along with the Matlab codes used to generate the published figures. To access the data and the codes, first unzip the file to access the following folders:
1. Data Structures: there are 7 data structures corresponding to the various data plotted in the main and supplementary figures. See file readme_data_structure_contents for the definition/contents of each subfield.
2. Support Functions:
· The folder “Matlab” contains MATLAB support functions: these are support functions needed to run the codes. Set your path to add all subfolders of this folder in order to be able to run the code. add the folder with subfolders to the Matlab path and run the different codes. **
· The “Bonsai” folder contains functions needed to import data from the data structures. Set your path to add all subfolders of this folder in order to be able to run the code. Add the folder with subfolders to the Matlab path and run the different codes.
** For Figures 4, S6, S7, and S8, the parallel computing toolbox must be installed for it to run. You can find this within the toolboxes in Matlab.
3. Figure Functions: At the beginning of each Figure the code will require you to set a command directory to the structures folder to call the needed data structure for plotting. Edit this to wherever you have downloaded the structure. The code will plot each panel of each figure.
- ‘Figure1.m’: computers and plots the results for the panels B-J of Figure 1
- ‘Figure2.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels C-H of Figure 2.
- ‘Figure3.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels B-J of Figure 3.
- ‘Figure4.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-L of Figure 4.
- ‘FigureS1.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels B-Q of Figure S1.
- ‘FigureS2.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-H of Figure Ss.
- ‘FigureS3.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-D of Figure S3.
- ‘FigureS4.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-F of Figure S2.
- ‘FigureS5.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-E of Figure S5.
- ‘FigureS6.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-C of Figure S6.
- ‘FigureS7.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-L of Figure S7.
- ‘FigureS8.m’: computes and plots the results for the panels A-J of Figure S8.
