Cognitive offloading in the context of internet usage

Authors/Creators

Description

This presentation introduces the initial findings from an experiment that formed part of a project called "The impact of internet usage patterns on the development of youth's cognitive styles". The assessment methodology is based on the metasystem approach to the study of metacognitive activity in information behaviour, as developed by A. V. and A. N. Karpov. The findings suggest that different metacognitive components are involved in completing different tasks. Notably, cognitive offloading is positively correlated with metacognitive knowledge, suggesting that young people can consciously choose this strategy to effectively manage their cognitive resources.
