From researcher to repository and back again
Authors/Creators
Description
Training materials used in a workshop that was delivered in July 2025 as part of the DCC Spring Training Days series, entitled 'From researcher to repository and back again'.
Summary of workshop:
For Researchers and Research Support Staff. In this workshop, we will examine how a researcher can select, organize and describe their dataset and deposit it so their supporting data can be reused; as well as the role of the Data Steward or Data Manager at the repository in enhancing the FAIR (Findable/Accessible/Interoperable/Reusable) aspects of the dataset. We will look at the need for Basic Curation and the options for Enhanced Curation, as well as the dynamic relationship between the researcher and the repository and how the whole process supports the research cycle. All of this additionally requires policies and means for selecting data; managing file formats and handling personal data. We will look at some tools and means available to support these issues.
File list:
20250708_SessionPlan_DCCSpringTraining_ResearchertoRepository: the document that we created to plan and manage the training session, which we believe will be useful for potential reusers of the content
20250708_DCCSpringTraining_ResearcherToRepository: The slides presented during this workshop
The slide deck is distributed the same across three file formats: .pptx, .odp, and .pdf. The .pptx format is the most (web) accessible while the .odp format is the most open without retaining several accessibility features - both formats are subject to formatting issues. The .pdf serves as a stable visual version with accessible features. In case of format issues, the .pdf file would be considered the reference file.
