LG-MIAR

Description

The LOOKING-GLASS MIAR (Monitoraggio Integrato dell’Attività e del Riposo) dataset comprises recordings of heart rate and movement kinematics/kinetics from 12 young, healthy adults (6 females).

Experimental protocol

The dataset includes two distinct phases:

  • Laboratory (Supervised): Participants performed a rehabilitation-oriented protocol including 6-minute treadmill walking, side-walking, sit-to-stand transitions, crouching, and lifting objects with one and both hands, in a human movement lab.
  • Real-World (Unsupervised): Participants kept the same multi-sensor wearables setup used in the lab until the day after, including overnight sleep.

Instrumentation and Data Types

The dataset integrates gold-standard laboratory equipment with a multi-sensor wearable network:

  • Cardiac Monitoring: Single-lead ECG (Polar H10) and 4-channel PPG (Polar Verity Sense).
  • Inertial Sensing: Tri-axial acceleration and angular velocity from five AX6 sensors (Axivity Ltd) placed at wrists, ankles, and lower back (L5).
  • Laboratory Ground-Truth: 3D kinematics via BTS Smart-D stereophotogrammetry, kinetic data (forces, moments, COP) via Bertec 4060-08 force plates, and load cell data via a Technobody Walkerview instrumented treadmill.
  • Metadata: CRF, sleep diaries, and sensor non-wear logs.

Repository Structure

The repository is organized as follows:

  • LGMIAR.zip: Contains individual participant folders, each sub-divided into:

    • docs/: Participant-specific metadata and diaries.

    • lab/: Synchronized raw data from supervised sessions.

    • realWorld/: Continuous 24-hour synchronized sensor recordings.

  • picture_LGMIAR.pdf: Visual documentation of the markers and sensor placement.

  • READMEfile_LGMIAR.txt: Technical guide including data formats, sampling frequencies, and sensor coordinate systems.

Research Purpose

This unique database is designed to:

  • Facilitate the development and validation of algorithms for heart rate and movement analysis in both controlled and ecological environments.

  • Analyze the transition between laboratory "capacity" and real-world "performance".

  • Establish a normative baseline for the complete rest-activity cycle to optimize future personalized rehabilitation programs.

Data Availability

This dataset is currently under embargo pending the publication of the associated research article. The files will become Open Access sooner upon article release.
