THE EFFECT OF CLASSROOM DECORATIONS ON LEARNING CONCENTRATION IN SCIENCE AMONG GRADE IV PUPILS OF SAMAR COLLEGES, INC.: A MIXED-METHOD RESEARCH

Classroom decorations refer to the range of accents placed inside a learning area which provide a visually appealing and engaging environment. This study investigated the effect of classroom decoration to the learning concentration of Grade IV pupils in Science of Samar Colleges, Inc. A mixed-method approach was utilized using explanatory sequential design. Interestingly, the quantitative results of the study revealed that whether a classroom is decorated or not, pupils have a good level of learning concentration. It was also found out that there is no significant difference in the level of learning concentration between students in decorated classrooms and undecorated classrooms. These findings suggest that the physical environment of the classroom may not play a significant influence on the level of learning concentration of Grade IV pupils during their learning activities. The qualitative data suggests that some pupils like decorated classrooms for better learning and interest, but clutter can be distracting; others prefer plain rooms for improved concentration, but some don't see a big difference in their focus either way.
