Ketangguhan Ibu dalam Merawat Anak yang Terdiagnosis Gangguan Jiwa
Description
The heavy burden of caregiving for people with mental disorders (PWMD) can affect their physical, psychological, social, and economic conditions, thus they need the ability to overcome difficulties and be able to bounce back functionally, which is called resilience. Mothers as caregivers of PWMDare in a vulnerable position that has the potential to reduce resilience and adversely affect the quality of care for PWMD. It is very important to know the resilience of mothers in order to recommend efforts to improve resilience and the ability to care for PWMD more optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of mother's resilience when caring for children with mental disorders. Researchers used a phenomenological approach to conduct this qualitative research. To select research participants, researchersused a purposive sampling strategy. Five research participants, namely mothers who have children with mental disorders, received data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation.Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews and observations of participants. Collaizi's analysis was used to determine the research themes, which were arranged in stages, starting from coding, categorisation to theme formation. This study produced five themes, namely deep sadness, calming down to survive, gaining valuable lessons, and persistence to achieve the future. It can be concluded that maternal resilience is needed as a foundation in caring for children with mental disorders. Community support, peer groups, and psycho-education for the family are reinforcements for mothers as caregivers of PWMD. The use of technology can be optimised in providing support in improving maternal resilience.
