The TOPLESS co-repressor family and WRKY63 regulate different stages of transcriptional reprogramming after the cell surface immune receptor RLP23 activation

Abstract
Pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) derived from the Necrosis-inducing-like proteins (NLPs) activate immunity in different plant species. In Arabidopsis, the PAMP nlp24 recognition by the RLP23 cell surface receptor activates signaling via the EDS1 and helper NLR family proteins (Pruitt et al., 2021). How the transcriptional responses are regulated after that is unclear. Using bulk RNAseq analyses, we found that the TOPLESS transcriptional co-repressor family and the transcription factor WRKY63 regulate the early and late stages of the nlp24-triggered transcriptional reprogramming. The data also indicate that another cell surface receptor regulates the RLP23 outputs.
