Serial verbs and verbal periphrases in Haruai

Description

In Haruai [tmd; haru1245] the serial verb construction serves as a basis for verbal periphrases, sometimes with further grammaticalization to bound morphemes, in both causative and aspectual formations. The causative, with p ‘get’ as first verb, is highly restricted lexically. Aspectual periphrases are productive and include the use of ng ‘finish V-ing’ and pör ‘stop V-ing’ as final verb, and are the plausible origins of the suffixes completive -g (from ng) and imperfective -md (from md ‘be located), with the latter perhaps the origin of prohibitive -md.
