Description
This paper examines the complex relationship between climate anxieties and collective action among Generation Z, exploring how psychological responses to environmental threats translate into organized activism. Through a comprehensive review of recent literature, this study analyzes the sociopsychological mechanisms that drive young people to engage in environmental collective action despite experiencing significant climate-related distress. The research synthesizes findings from environmental psychology, social movement theory, and youth development studies to understand how Generation Z transforms anxiety into agency. Results indicate that while climate anxiety serves as both a motivator and barrier to action, peer support, collective efficacy beliefs, and social identity formation play crucial roles in facilitating sustained environmental activism. The paper concludes with implications for mental health support and movement organizing strategies.
