BRIDGING THE GROWTH GAP: OVERCOMING OWNERSHIP ANXIETY, FINANCIAL RESISTANCE, AND STRUCTURAL BARRIERS IN EMERGING BUSINESSES
Description
This publication examines the persistent challenges faced by SMEs and some large businesses in emerging economies, especially their reluctance to embrace external financing or strategic partnerships. Rooted in psychological, structural, and policy-related barriers, this mindset often hinders growth and contributes to business failure.
The article explores how fears of losing control, low financial literacy, and distrust of institutions limit expansion opportunities. It makes the case for a paradigm shift calling for improved investor education, risk-sharing financial models, and supportive government policies. By addressing these gaps, the paper proposes strategies to align business growth with long-term economic development and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
