Description

This paper is a content analysis of literature research on the development of Learning Management Systems (LMS) with regard to personalized learning and will examine works that have been published since 2015 to 2025. The LMS has taken a different turn with the new technologies that have transformed delivery and personalization of education. Whereas quite a number of research studies have been done on the functionality of LMS and how to use it in the context of an individualized learning, there has been a gap in analyzing the studies in a systematic manner. Out of a total of 200 articles, 50 articles were chosen and examined due to their publication trends, research methods, the main objects, and new technologies. The results indicate the predominance of studies based in Spain, China, the U.S. and the U.K. and many focus on quantitative research techniques (surveys). Subjects on technology development, adaptive learning, and student motivation feature commonly as the subject of research. The paper also sheds light on the unexplored fields AI-based personalization, learning analytics, and learning management systems accessibility. The findings give an inclusive picture of the research landscape and research gaps that can be exploited in the future with regards to LMS development and individualized learning.
