EFFECTIVENESS OF GAME-BASED LEARNING APPROACH IN IMPROVING THE VOCABULARY SKILLS OF KINDERGARTEN PUPILS
Authors/Creators
Description
This study examined the effectiveness of game-based learning in enhancing vocabulary skills and attitudes toward literacy among 37 kindergarten pupils at Pedro Bunot Central School, Apayao (SY 2024–2025). Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, learners engaged in vocabulary games like Word Safari and Build-a-Word Tower. A vocabulary test and a visual Likert checklist measured outcomes. Results showed a significant improvement from a mean pre-test score of 8 to a post-test score of 13 (t = 60.47, d = 2.29), indicating strong effectiveness. Learners displayed positive attitudes (mean = 2.61), though no significant correlation was found between attitude and performance. Findings support game-based learning as an effective approach for vocabulary development in early childhood education.
