SafeTeen: A Teenage Perspective on Algorithmic Bias and Digital Injustice
Authors/Creators
Description
Honestly, my interest in this project started with a strange kind of silent frustration.
I kept seeing AI everywhere — in my phone, in Instagram, in the videos I watched — but when I talked to my classmates, many of them didn’t even know what "AI" meant. That scared me.
It scared me that we live with something that shapes our world, but we don’t understand it.
So I started researching. And the more I learned, the more I felt like voices like mine — teenagers from countries like Iran — were completely missing from the design of these systems.
One night, I felt like giving up. I didn’t think this paper would matter. But then a friend of mine said:
"I don’t even know what AI is. Just tell me — is it dangerous?"
And in that moment, I realized this wasn’t just a school project — it was a responsibility.
I faced problems: lack of access, limited English, slow internet… but every time I thought of the teens whose voices are never heard, I kept going.
