Description

The importance of death and life after death has led to the formation and preservation of diverse traditions among various nations, even as religions have changed. These traditions help communities deal with the fear of death and maintain a sense of continuity. Although each religion introduces new rituals, ancient beliefs about death often persist. This study examines the traditions related to death among Muslim and Christian Tatars, a group known for maintaining such practices under Russian and Soviet rule.
By comparing death-related traditions in both Islamic and Christian contexts among Tatars, the article explores the roots and the transformation of these rituals. The findings suggest that despite the introduction of new religious doctrines, many ancient rituals have survived, indicating a continuity of primitive religious beliefs in both communities. The research uses a comparative approach, focusing on the persistence and changes in death-related traditions among the Tatars.
