Description

In an age where false teachings, cultural ideologies, humanistic philosophies, and spiritual apathy threaten the integrity of the Church, the role of sound doctrine becomes more vital. This paper critically examines the biblical-theological framework of sound doctrine, emphasising its centrality in shaping Christian faith, worship, leadership, and community life. Drawing from both the Old and New Testaments, the study explores the foundations of sound doctrine in Scripture, highlighting its role in covenant obedience, moral guidance, and wisdom transmission. In the New Testament, particular attention is given to the apostolic teachings in the Pastoral Epistles and the early Church’s commitment to doctrinal steadfastness. The paper adopts a sola scriptura research methodology, employing a scriptural review research approach to critically examine the biblical-theological basis for sound doctrinal teachings. The study concludes by offering recommendations for teaching, testing, and transmitting sound doctrine in today’s Church. Ultimately, the study affirms that sound doctrine is not optional but essential because it is God’s ordained means of preserving truth, producing godliness, and guiding believers in a world full of spiritual error. Thus, a return to scriptural teaching is imperative for the health, unity, and effectiveness of the Body of Christ.
