Creating a simple map in QGIS
Description
This is a tutorial that can be used to learn -or teach- how to make a simple map in QGIS. Based on other tutorials, especially the EAMENA-CPF tutorial 'GIS 1', the first version of this current tutorial was used during a in-person training workshop session of 75 minutes given at Leiden University on 25 June 2025. Thanks to useful comments from the participants, a section was added and some additional updates made.
Target audience: Researchers wishing to create a simple map to illustrate or analyse their research results. Also suitable for others wishing to create a simple map.
Learning outcomes: At the end of the tutorial, the participant will be able to create a simple map in QGIS and export it for publication.
Duration: ca 1 hour to work through the tutorial without the optional sections + extra time for exploring everything in detail and perfecting your map.
Files: A PDF/A file is available for easy use and DOCX/ODT files have been added for ease of reuse, which is welcomed.
