Mondaecus_OPERAS-PT_Coimbra Group presentation
Description
This presentation was delivered at the Coimbra Group Summer School on European Multilingualism (University of Coimbra, June 2025), and introduces the MONDAECUS platform as a case study of collaborative academic translation aligned with the principles of Open Science.
The session begins with a concise overview of Open Science and the OPERAS Research Infrastructure, emphasizing its mission to promote bibliodiversity, multilingualism, and equity in scholarly communication in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The presentation then outlines the main OPERAS services (GoTriple, PRISM, VERA, OPERAS Metrics, Pathfinder), highlighting their role in fostering a more inclusive and participatory research ecosystem.
The focus then shifts to the specific challenges posed by linguistic hegemony in academic publishing and the need for infrastructures that support multilingual dissemination. In this context, the MONDAECUS platform is presented as an OPERAS-PLUS-funded initiative born from the Special Interest Group on Multilingualism. Developed by the University of Coimbra, MONDAECUS enables collaborative, community-based translation workflows, combining automated tools with human review and annotation.
The presentation includes a live demonstration of the platform and concludes with an open invitation to participants to contribute to MONDAECUS communities and co-shape the future of multilingual scholarly communication.
