When the VLT met ASKAP: Using Fast Radio Bursts as Cosmological Probes
Description
The commencement of Australia's Strategic Partnership with ESO came at a fortuitous time. The Commensal Real-time ASKAP Fast Transients (CRAFT) survey pioneered the ability to localise non-repeating Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) to their host galaxies, enabling follow-up imaging and spectroscopy with the VLT. I will present highlights from our P108-113 ESO Large Programme "FURBY". These include the discovery of the first FRB confirmed at a redshift of 1; an FRB with no apparent host galaxy; unbiased demographics of the FRB host galaxy population; and even an independent measure of H_0. The challenges and prospects for FRB studies in the SKA+ELT era will also be touched upon.
