Lulin observatory's rapid response to extreme transients

Description

We use the 40 cm and 1 m telescopes at Lulin Observatory for real-time monitoring of rapidly evolving transients, including kilonovae, fast blue optical transients, fast X-ray transients, gamma-ray bursts, and young supernovae. These efforts have led to the identification of multiple optical counterparts, particularly for the Einstein Probe alerts, which we promptly report. Additionally, we are conducting a volume-limited kilonova search through the Kinder program, independent of gravitational wave alerts. Our team collaborates with the ePESSTO+ project to investigate superluminous supernovae and capture the earliest moments of supernova explosions with the ATLAS team. Taiwan's geographic location offers an observational advantage, enabling coverage of specific time slots for transient monitoring. The flexibility of small telescopes further provides the observing time and quickly respond to unique astronomical events. By engaging citizen scientists, we aim to maximise the scientific potential of these telescopes in advancing transient research.
