A Bioenergetically Constrained Astrocyte-Neuron Model of Subjective Time Perception
Authors/Creators
Description
We propose a mechanistic model of subjective time perception grounded in astrocyteneuron dynamics and bioenergetic thermodynamics. The theory synthesizes findings
from glutamate uptake delay, mitochondrial hysteresis, and cortical layer-specific activity. Subjective temporal windows (τs) are governed by metabolic state, particularly
ATP dynamics within astrocytes. Our model partially accounts for Libet’s temporal
delay, ketosis-induced time dilation, and predicted shifts in glutamate concentration
under astrocytic inhibition. All claims are linked to validated in vivo data and presented with testable, falsifiable predictions.
