Nevertheless, the rising evidence of its negative effects is becoming increasingly significant. The use of social media appears to be linked to online harassment and heightened divisions among individuals. Research shows that there are connections between excessive social media use and issues like depression, loneliness, and various other mental health challenges. There is a need for regulation of the operations of social media platforms to ensure that their business practices and engagement-driven algorithms do not harm society while also protecting free speech rights.
