Description

The purpose of our study is to delineate the field of socio-discursive address in slogans developed within the framework of the global communication initiatives undertaken by the United Nations. To this end, we will conduct a contrastive analysis of slogans reproduced in French and Arabic in relation to their original English counterparts. Our objective is to examine the socio-discursive address mechanisms employed in the three languages to identify the translation strategies implemented and assess the extent to which they influence the effectiveness and impact of the message on the target audience. This analysis questions the ability of the translated versions to convey the perlocutionary effect of the address. Through this study, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics underlying the translation of global communication slogans by identifying the inherent challenges in reproducing socio-discursive address.
