Modern Nuclear Data Management
Authors/Creators
Description
Nuclear reaction data are essential for the various branches of nuclear science and applications, such as fusion research, nuclear medicine and nuclear engineering. Effective and transparent data management is therefore paramount in the nuclear sector, to provide a reliable source of essential data. This presentation examines how modern project management practices, version control systems, automation, and open-source approaches can improve the data management of nuclear reaction data.
We demonstrate how established projects, such as EXFOR, JEFF and ENSDF, can benefit from moving to an open-source project management approach to enhance inclusiveness and collaboration. By employing version control systems, such as Git, we can ensure data integrity and facilitate seamless tracking of changes, allowing teams to maintain an accurate and reliable data repository.
Automation tools play a critical role in streamlining data workflows, reducing human error, and increasing operational efficiency. We discuss the implementation of automated data processing pipelines for the EXFOR library, which can significantly reduce the time required for data preparation. We examine how data collection can be supported by modern technologies to make data aggregation more efficient.
Furthermore, we advocate for the adoption of open-source solutions, which promote transparency, collaboration, and cost-effectiveness. By sharing tools and resources across organizations, the nuclear data community can collectively advance data management practices and drive innovation.
Through case studies and practical examples, this presentation highlights the potential for these modern approaches to enhance data management for nuclear reaction data, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
