Challenges on Campus Journalism: Exploring Public School Paper Advisers' Journey

Description

This study explored the challenges of School Paper Advisers in handling journalism. Specifically, it aimed to answer their perceptions about it simultaneously as the coping mechanisms for the emerging challenges. To achieve the objectives of the study, I made use of phenomenology. The 5 participants for the in-depth interview and 6 participants for the focus group discussion of this study were female or male teachers of Panabo City Division. I used a semi-structured online interview using the coding technique to analyze the data. The study disclosed different themes, such as in the first Objective, experiences of School Paper adivsers in handling campus journalism. The results were Challenges and Obstacles, Balancing Roles, and Technological Challenges. The second objective is to provide Coping strategies for school paper advisers to the challenges they perceive as effective in handling campus journalism. In collecting results, the themes are Professional Development and Training, Time Management, and Building Supportive Network. In summary, these emergent themes provide insights that emphasize the significance of holistic approaches to the School Paper Adviser's well-being. Educational institutions and legislators may support more resilient and content campus journalism by cultivating a culture that prioritizes Professional Growth and Development and Time management and Organizational Skills. It was essential to identify and address these coping mechanisms to foster an atmosphere in which school paper advisers can flourish on the job while preserving the integrity of journalism.  Despite these obstacles, school paper advisers remain deeply committed to nurturing young journalists by going above and beyond their regular duties. They often collaborate with fellow advisers from other schools to exchange strategies that can enhance their programs.
