Description

These documents contains the English version of the interview guideline and Q-methodological survey instrument used to collect data in work package 4 ("Farmer-related challenges to the use of sustainable soil management practices") of the project SoilX ("Soil management to mitigate climate change-related precipitation eXtremes").

The interviews and Q-methodological sorting were conducted with farm managers farming arable land in different case study regions and addressed two main topics:

1) the aspects driving farmers' soil management, primarily elicited using the Q-methodological sorting, and

2) farmers' perceptions and ideals of a "good farmer", based on the corresponding theoretical concept. These were elicited using open-ended questions.

The interview guideline also contains an introductory part where farmers were asked to describe their farm and soil management, and a closing part.

Information on the farm manager, the farm, soil management, and "good farmer" norms were also collected by means of a brief questionnaire at the end of each interview. The questionnaire is also part of the interview guideline document.

The documents attached here are a) the interview guideline, including the questionnaire; and b) the statements and Q-sort used for the Q-methodological analysis.
