Modus ponens disjunctivus
Authors/Creators
Description
Background:
The Modus Ponens Disjunctivus (MPD), a lesser--known but powerful inference rule in propositional logic, has gained renewed attention for its epistemological potential in empirical sciences, including medicine and epidemiology.
Material and methods:
Data from PubMed--indexed studies were re--evaluated to illustrate MPD. The analysis incorporated logical tools such as \textit{conditio sine qua non}, \textit{conditio per quam}, and negation--based implication.
Results:
The MPD framework successfully integrated disparate datasets and supported the derivation of non--obvious but robust causal hypotheses, illustrating its utility in interdisciplinary contexts.
Conclusion:
The Modus Ponens Disjunctivus is a powerful inferential structure capable of extending the scope of classical logic into applied scientific reasoning, offering new epistemological pathways for the discovery of causes.
