Description

This talk, delivered at the UN-GGCE Geodesy Capacity Development Workshop for Africa (May 2025, Nairobi), outlines the vision, progress, and strategic imperatives behind the establishment of GGOS Africa — a Pan-African initiative aimed at integrating geodetic infrastructure and activities across the continent. It highlights Africa's critical role in the global geodesy supply chain, the continent’s unmet geospatial needs, and the shared benefits of coordinated investment in geodetic systems. The presentation also reviews recent developments, including the GGOS Africa Implementation Plan, collaborations with major STI projects, and plans for a formal GGOS Africa Affiliate by 2025.
