Description

After a prolonged political battle, the Akali Dal succeeded in securing the formation of a separate state in 1966, which allowed Punjabis to preserve their language and culture. However, this achievement came after a lengthy and challenging struggle. In 1956, following the States Reorganisation Act, PEPSU was merged into Punjab, which set the stage for the Punjabi Suba movement to gain renewed momentum in its quest for a separate state. During this period, the press played a pivotal role in documenting the movement, covering the key actions and decisions of its prominent leaders, and ensuring the public stayed informed about the ongoing efforts toward realizing the goal of a distinct Punjabi state.
