Placemaking Maptivity - a serious game to facilitate Green Building Neighbourhoods planning
Authors/Creators
Description
We propose the Placemaking Maptivity as a serious game to help community stakeholders understand what a smart and sustainable place can look like and work towards its improvement. The theoretical foundation of Placemaking Maptivity is based on systems thinking, the principles of stakeholder engagement, serious gaming and the ISO 37101 framework for sustainable communities. These perspectives ensure that the tool not only promotes understanding, but also aligns local initiatives with internationally recognised sustainability standards.
The development of the Maptivity involved iterative refinement, including AI-based assessments, customisation of elements of the ISO standards, card game design and prototype testing with early adopters. The goal of this effort was to create a tool that is accessible, engaging, and effective in a variety of neighbourhood contexts. The Placemaking Maptivity can have a significant impact by strengthening collaboration between different stakeholders, improving decision-making and accelerating the implementation of sustainable neighbourhood strategies.
