Polystyrene for seismic isolation: large-scale field testing of dynamic soil-foundation-structure interaction of geotechnical seismic isolation (GSI) systems founded on expanded polystyrene (ERIES-POLIS)

Description

This dataset includes data from recordings of the forced- and free-vibration response of the prototype structure of EuroProteas resting on embedded expanded polystyrene (EPS) slabs, as a geotechnical seismic isolation. The instrumentation comprised high-resolution accelerometers, seismometers, and laser displacement sensors. The instruments were placed on the soil surface around the foundation, inside the EPS slabs, on the foundation and on the roof of EuroProteas. The dynamic forced-vibration tests covered a wide range of frequencies (1 to 10Hz) and amplitudes (0.1kN to 20kN), whereas the pull-out (free-vibration) tests covered a range of force amplitudes up to 15kN.

All field tests were executed at the Euroseistest / EuroProteas facility. Drawings, instrumentation layout, and photos are also included in the dataset.

This work is part of the transnational access project "ERIES - POLIS: Polystyrene for seismic isolation: large-scale field testing of dynamic soil-foundation-structure interaction of geotechnical seismic isolation (GSI) systems founded on expanded polystyrene ", supported by the Engineering Research Infrastructures for European Synergies (ERIES) project (www.eries.eu), which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Framework Programme under Grant Agreement No. 101058684.
