  • 1. Mindanao State University General Santos, Philippines.

Description

This impact study examines the efficacy, sustainability, and transformative capacity of Malandag Special Tertiary Extension Service Program (STESP) in enhancing indigenous learners and redefining the educational framework of Sarangani. By assessing both qualitative and quantitative results, this provides light on how the program not only expands access to tertiary education but also develops indigenous identity, strengthens local capacities, and promotes long-term socioeconomic development. It evaluated the benefits students received from the scholarship, assessed the impact of scholarship support on their lives, and identified areas for program improvement. A mixed-methods research design was employed. Data collection methods included surveys and interviews, with findings revealing significant positive effects on education, career advancement, and community development. Although the program has been successful in enabling indigenous students to pursue higher education, overcome socioeconomic obstacles, and contribute to their communities, challenges such as funding constraints and inadequate facilities highlight the need for continuous improvement. Key recommendations included reviving the program, provided that identified challenges are addressed and sustainable funding is ensured.
