The MAGNUM survey: Measuring Active Galactic Nuclei Under MUSE Microscope
Description
In this talk I will review 10 years of activity using the data of a sample of nearby (DL < 50 Mpc) and well-studied AGN obtained with MUSE in science verification and in cycle 94. The MUSE field of view and sensitivity allowed to study in unprecedented detail the properties of AGN driven outflows in these sources, explore the differences in physical conditions, ionisation mechanism and gas excitation between the outflowing gas, the NLR and the ISM of the galaxy, using well tested diagnostic diagrams as well as new generation multi-cloud photoionisation models such as HOMERUN. At a resolution of tens of parsecs, we were able to spatially resolve the kinematical properties and outflow rates in these galaxies, implementing the 3D fitting tool MOKA3D which accounts for the intrinsic clumpiness of the outflowing ISM to derive accurate and deprojected outflow parameters. The results provide unique insights into the driving and acceleration mechanisms of these outflows. Moreover, we were able to study the impact of these fast outflows as well as of low-luminosity radio jets on the star formation in the host galaxy, finding evidences of both positive and negative feedback, and possibly identifying the major role of radio jet in injecting turbulence in the ISM. The MAGNUM sample still represents an unique showcase of the MUSE capabilities to study kinematics and ISM properties of nearby galaxies.
