This book presents key conceptual frameworks and foundational perspectives for the study of nonprofit organizations in Japan. It examines nonprofit organizations from the standpoint of management and citizen participation, and analyzes how these organizations operate within broader welfare systems and civil society. The book also considers the characteristics of co-operatives, community based organizations and social enterprises.
