Description

Abstract:
This study explores the use of Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) technology to improve communication in underwater swarm robotics. Traditional methods, such as acoustic and radio frequency (RF) systems, suffer from limited bandwidth, high latency and environmental interference. Li-Fi offers high-speed, low-latency communication using visible light. By implementing decentralized communication protocols, swarm robots can exchange information with nearby units, ensuring operational robustness even if individual robots fail. Multi-hop Li-Fi networks extend communication beyond direct line-of-sight (LOS), overcoming Li-Fi’s directional limitations. Simulations demonstrate enhanced communication range, reduced latency and improved fault tolerance. Potential applications include environmental monitoring, search and rescue and underwater inspections. This research highlights Li-Fi’s potential as a transformative solution for underwater swarm robotics communication challenges
