Literature review and knowledge integration report
Description
This literature review acts as the conceptual and methodological backbone of the Intersectional Inclusion in Deliberation and Participation with Youth (SINCRONY) project, which aims to ensure the meaningful inclusion of youth who experience social disadvantage and marginalisation in deliberative and participatory processes. The drafting of the literature review was a collaborative process. The nine participating organizations of the SINCRONY project: Alma Mater Studiorum- Universita di Bologna, The University of Manchester, Universidade Do Porto, ALDA (Association Europeenne Pour Democratie Locale), Wedo Project (Intelligence Made Easy SL), Aalborg Universitet, Turun Yliopisto, Universite de Geneve, and Universitaet Innsbruck, conducted initial reviews of relevant qualitative and quantitative texts on intersectionality and youth participation. The participating organizations also conducted reviews of existing initiatives through which youth participation has been institutionalized within each country’s context. These initial reviews highlighted existing theoretical and policy gaps in intersectional perspectives on deliberation and youth participation and provided a roadmap for the questions that are raised in this literature review. Further, by bringing in feminist and critical race perspectives, the literature review points to directions that the SINCRONY project can take to ensure the meaningful and robust participation of marginalized youth in deliberative processes.
