Description

Animations obtained with the code P-FLARE (https://github.com/piergui/P-FLARE),  applied to the flux-driven Hasegawa-Wakatani system [Guillon et al., J. Plasma Phys., 2025]:

  • Movie 1 - 2D maps of vorticity Ω( x , y ) (left) and density fluctuations n( x , y ) (right) in a numerical simulation of padded resolution 1024 × 1024 , with C = 0.05 and κℓ = 5, starting with an initial density profile which is steep on the left part of the x axis. Radial density nr (left) and zonal velocity vy (right) are shown in black lines. Buffer zones are indicated by the dashed lines.
  • Movie 2 - Spatiotemporal evolution of the zonal velocity (left) and radial density (right) profiles, in a numerical simulation of padded resolution 4096x4096 with C = 0.05 and κℓ = 5, starting with an initial density profile which is steep on the left part of the x axis. Buffer zones are indicated by the dashed lines.
  • Movie 3 - Comparison of the radial density (left) and the turbulent kinetic energy (right) profiles between the 4096x4096 DNS (blue) and the 1D reduced model (red).
  • Movie 4 - 2D maps of density fluctuations for 4 source amplitudes: α = 0 (top left), α = 1.2 (top right), α = 2.4 (bottom left), and α = 12 (bottom right), starting from the same saturated state obtained with no particle source. The radial density profile corresponds to the black line, and the sources shape to the colored dashed lines.
