Session: Panel discussion / Chatbots as fact-based assistance systems

Speaker: Monica Lam

Abstract: Whether generic, subject-specific or ‘cleaned-up’ chatbots, they all have the inherent ability to be of enormous help, but also to always run the risk of the answer being just a little off the mark. How do you deal with this, what is the maximum quality that can be achieved by chatbots and how do you have to wish for the text- and source-critical superhumans as ‘human in the loop’? The second aspect concerns the question of the academic and social added value of powerful and customised chatbots. What can we hope and wish for from generative AI and its LLM's and other tools? In addition, we will discuss what we can hope for from libraries in this process and development.
