EU-Africa PerMed Policy Brief nº 2 : Sustainable European and African Collaboration in Personalised Medicine

This document outlines first-hand lessons learnt for African-European collaborations of the EU-Africa PerMed project (www.euafrica-permed.eu) introduces the “Action Plan to facilitate, foster and promote personalised medicine research collaboration between Europe and Africa”, and presents four major recommendations for sustainable collaborations in personalised medicine (PM): 1) Establish funding mechanisms for African-European collaborations on PM research; 2) Create the conditions for an equitable environment for African-European collaborations; 3) Identify and develop PM supporting policies; and 4) Foster the organisation and collaboration at multiple levels to advance PM. The document is addressed to global, regional, and national stakeholders, such as the European Union (EU), African Union (AU), funding bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and public-private entities. This document emphasises the value of equitable partnerships to advance PM globally.
