AI-Powered Career Guidance through Psychometric and ML Analysis

Abstract - Choosing the right career is one of the toughest decisions for students and a lot fail the system due to lack of systematic guidance. Many of the conventional career guidance practices are based on generic guidelines rather than data driven recommendations. In this seminar, our use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the field of career guidance through CareerPathway will be discussed. Our method, based on OCEAN Personality traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism) and Aptitude Scores (Mathematics, Verbal, Logical Reasoning) is used through a diagnostic process to determine what are the best career options our students. The system uses the powerful machine learning technique of Random Forest algorithm over these attributes in order to recommend a career based on individual traits. AI besides predicting, gives a career map to clarify (skills, qualifications needed), step by step roadmap and possible dead ends and second preference career. Use of AI-powered insights, CareerPathway becomes more accurate and free from bias and keeps itself updated with latest career curve. This paper describes the methodology and implementation, results, as well future applications of a smart career guidance system with detailed design and construction in the following paper.
